Garden Walk of Buffalo - July 27 and 28

The Japanese Garden of Buffalo is the northern most garden on the map of our great local weekend garden event. Sat/Sun 9-5 July 27-28

What is very cool about that fact is that we have a big parking lot at the top of the garden next to the Buffalo History Museum (corner Elmwood and Nottingham Terrace).  Shuttle buses will take guests (free) from The Japanese garden to other stops on the Garden Walk including headquarters where folks can get water and souvenirs.

We are still in need of a few volunteers to greet visiters in the garden.  We are asking people to take two hours to be in the garden as a friendly representative.  We will have informational brochures to hand to folks.  You could bring a picnic, sit in the shade and enjoy the wonerful visitors who love gardens.  Interested? e-mail tstern2@aol.com (Trudy)

Now that Sakura Season has passed, I'm dreaming of next year's show! Each year it seems even more beautiful. I can't help but to wonder what my children's children will say when they see these beautiful trees. Long Live the Cherry Blossom!

Ikebana Lesson

Azaleas, Heaven

Azaleas, Earth

White azaleas, Man

Laughter in between

Red dogwood with tiny buds

Clipped to make dynamic lines

Like drawing with an eraser

Then a lily in a kanzen
So dignified
It makes us gasp.

Metal grass
Manhattan trash
Entrapping tender peonies
This is free form
Ikebana

Ladies with their husband’s names
Are breaking all the rules
Flowers are their weapons
Space their golden key

Looking Forward - Looking Back Azalea Time Has Come

Cherry Blossoms almost gone
They fell like snow in Buffalo
Now azaleas take the stage
Hot pink across stone steps
And every green your can see
On graceful maple leaves

hanami, is the Japanese spring tradition of having a party under sakura cherry trees during that brief moment that they’re in bloom. Bring a picnic and some friends. The Japanese Garden of Buffalo is located next to the Buffalo History Museum on Elmwood Ave and Nottingham Terrace. Park in the lot and find the cherry trees on the banks of Mirror Lake.
